Monthly data for May 2026 from the Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) shows some softness in the camera and lenses markets, with political uncertainty and climate change affecting sales. The May figures show a drop in worldwide shipments between April and May, following a significant rise in the March to April. One bright spot appears to have been in the compact, fixed-lens camera market sector, which dipped a little but remained within 99.4%, following a significant rise from January through to April. Whether this slide will continue is difficult to predict once the figures for the hotter-than-average summer in the Northern Hemisphere come in.
